inscribed in the Book of Life.
The ancient Israelites had two " New Year " observances. The first was on the 1st day of the 1st month of Nissanu and the second was on the 1st day of the 7th month of Tishritu. Nissanu was known as Rosh Chodeshim meaning the beginning of months. This was the 1st month in regards to the seasons as Nissan was also known as Abib meaning the Spring Month. The Israelite deliverance from Egypt took place in the Spring month of Nissanu. The 7th month in relation to the seasons is Tishritu whose name literally means the beginning. Tishri is the beginning of creation and civilization.
