(The Prophet Muhammad did not consummate his marriage with Aisha when she was only 9 years old)

In recent years the slandering campaign against the Prophet Muhammad has escalated into a frenzy of accusations in which the enemies of Islam are gleefully and confidently declaring the Prophet Muhammad to be a pedophile.

Why are the enemies of Islam so confident and successful in spreading such a horrifying and slanderous accusation? The answer is that this terrible lie that is propagated against the Prophet Muhammad is not a fabrication made up by radical Christians or others who seek to tarnish the name of the Prophet Muhammad but it is that which is grounded in Non-Koraic Islamic sources that have been falsely declared by Muslims as authentic.

The sources identified in reference to the above mentioned accusation have to do with a supposedly verified account concerning the Prophet Muhammad's marriage to Aisha. According to the Hadith the Prophet Muhammad consummated his marriage with Aisha when she was only 9 years of age. Although 9 year old girls were legally married in 17th Century England and Colonial America it would be beneath the dignity of a Prophet to engage in such immoral behavior.

How did such an unscrupulous and slanderous teaching become that which is declared as an authentic source in Islam? According to the Great Imam Bukhari the teaching is in fact genuine and irrefutable. This of course raises the question of infallibility as opposed to that which is subject to error.

There are some who believe that the Bible is infallible, while others believe the Pope is infallible and still there are Muslims who believe that the judgment of Imam Bukhari in relation to Sahih (authentic) Hadith is infallible. The truth of the matter is that the Holy Koran is the only divinely revealed and perfectly maintained communication that is actively in existence. It is by virtue of its unique and divinely mandated status that the Koran is to be declared as the only infallible source of information available at this time.. Therefore all that exists outside of the Koran is in theory subject to error and possible correction. This includes the Hadith as well.

Imam Bukhari may have done a relatively good job in his judgment of the Hadith. However since Bukhari lived approximately 250 years after the Prophet Muhammad he could not have possibly been a Prophet himself as the Prophet Muhammad is the Seal of the Prophets. Without Prophetic standing Imam Bukhari was fallible meaning that his judgment is subject to error and correction. Therefore in order to understand the fact that the Prophet Muhammad did not have sexual relations with a 9 year old girl it must be a prerequisite in understanding that the judgment of Imam Bukhari is fallible and subject to correction.

Any Muslim who believes that the judgment of Imam Bukhari is infallible is in essence unjustl.y bestowing prophetic status upon him By doing this they are declaring that the Seal of the Prophets is invalid. This is a denial of the Prophet Muhammad's divinely bestowed role and a heresy that results in one being declared a Non-Muslim.

The Prophet Muhammad feared that the misjudgment made by scholars would be a source of deception:

Abu Dhar said, "I was with the Prophet (SAW) one day and I heard him saying: "There is something I fear for my Ummah than the Dajjal."

It was then that I became afraid, so I said: " Oh Rasool Allah! Which thing is that?" He (SAW) said; "Misguided and astray scholars."

Recorded in Musnad Imam Ahmad (no.21,334 and no.21,335). Sheikh Shu'ayb al Arna'ut graded it sahih li ghayri (authentic due to corroborating narrations) in his tahqiq of the Musnad (1999 ed., 35:21,296-97).

Now that the problem of misguided scholarship has been identified, it is now time to address the false information in question. The following is the Hadith that Bukhari falsely declared as Sahih or genuine. It is that which slanders the Prophet Muhammad by claiming that he consummated his marriage with a 9 year old girl.

Narrated Aisha: The Prophet engaged me when I was a girl of six (years). We went to Medina and stayed at the home of Bani-al-Harith bin Khazraj. Then I got ill and my hair fell down. Later on my hair grew (again) and my mother, Um Ruman, came to me while I was playing in a swing with some of my girl friends. She called me, and I went to her, not knowing what she wanted to do to me. She caught me by the hand and made me stand at the door of the house. I was breathless then, and when my breathing became Alright, she took some water and rubbed my face and head with it. Then she took me into the house. There in the house I saw some Ansari women who said, "Best wishes and Allah's Blessing and a good luck." Then she entrusted me to them and they prepared me (for the marriage). Unexpectedly Allah's Apostle came to me in the forenoon and my mother handed me over to him, and at that time I was a girl of nine years of age. Volume 5, Book 58, Number 234

Narrated 'Aisha: I used to play with the dolls in the presence of the Prophet, and my girl friends also used to play with me. When Allah's Apostle used to enter (my dwelling place) they used to hide themselves, but the Prophet would call them to join and play with me. (The playing with the dolls and similar images is forbidden, but it was allowed for 'Aisha at that time, as she was a little girl, not yet reached the age of puberty.)

The above mentioned Hadiths are obviously portrayed within an environment that reflects a socially incompatible relationship that is based on pedophilia. Aisha begins her account of her marriage to the Prophet Muhammad with an engagement that takes place at the age of six. It appears that upon being engaged that she is separated from her immediate family and relocated to an interim residence in Medina. There she becomes ill and her hair falls out. This is obviously a result of stress related to the engagement. An overbearing circumstance that has taken its toll on the nervous system of the little girl. Respiratory problems were also reported. This appears to emerge in the form of a panic attack.which takes place immediately before the Prophet Muhammad arrives to consummate the marriage. At this time Aisha was reportedly nine years old.

In addition to falling ill Aisha's childhood playtime with her friends is continually disrupted. In order to prepare her for the coming of the Prophet Muhammad and the consummation of the marriage Aisha is called off of her swing. During the time of her engagement the Prophet Muhammad unexpectedly arrives at her residence while she is playing with dolls with her young friends. Her friends would immediately run to hide themselves as they obviously felt uncomfortable with the sudden adult male presence. The Prophet Muhammad would then encourage Aisha's friends to come out of hiding so that they could resume playing with her. If her friends felt uncomfortable enough to the point of making them hide, how much more did Aisha feel embarrassed when her friends suddenly dispersed. The false and slandering Hadith seems to be rooted in confusion that surrounds the Islamic understanding of Baaligh or coming of age.

The Prophet Muhammad did not consummate his marriage with Aisha when she was only 9 years old but rather when she was 15. In order to understand the confusion it is imperative to understand the significance and relationship that the ages 9 and 15 have with each other. Modern science continues to confirm the fact that the onset of menstruation ranges from 9 to 15 years old. This is something that was universally understood for centuries even before the time of the Prophet Muhammad's lifetime.

What if I haven’t had my period yet?
" It’s normal to get your period as early as 9 years old or as late as 15 years old"

Normal periods (menstruation)

Starting to have periods is part of growing up for girls. Periods usually start to occur around the same time as other changes happen to the body, such as starting to develop breasts or to grow pubic hair. The average age to start periods is 13 but it is normal to start at any time between the ages of 9 and 15.

With the 9 -15 range it was universally accepted that 15 would be the age of physical maturity. This is known to Muslims as Baaligh. The Bahai faith which derived from Islam still uses 15 as the standard for physical maturity. In most Hispanic cultures 15 is considered the coming of Age. In this regard females celebrate this with a festive party known as Quinceanera. In Mexico Quinceanera is traced back to Aztec Civilization where at 15 years old males were considered warriors and females the mothers of future warriors.15 marked the age a girl became a woman

Since 15 was usually the latest age for the onset of puberty and menstruation it became the common standard for physical maturity. Within this understanding even if a young girl appeared to be fully developed and had consistently experienced menstrual cycles for years she was not considered Baaligh until she reached 15 years of age. This meant that a marriage could not be consummated before a female reached 15. Therefore the Prophet Muhammad would not have attempted to consummate a marriage before the age of 15 nor would have he even consummated it at 15 if for some rare reason menstruation did not yet commence by 15.

Sometime after the passing of the Prophet Muhammad, and the downfall of Ahl Beyt which was symbolized by the killing of Ali and his sons Hussein and Hassan some perverse elements infiltrated into the hierarchy of Islam and began to promote pedophilia and other false teachings. They understood and observed the common and detrimental effects that pedophilia was having on young girls. The sudden loss of hair and respiratory difficulties were some of the more noticeable or obvious reactions. In order to justify this form of abuse and its effects they falsely created Hadiths about the Prophet Muhammad and Aisha. Within these corruptions they reversed the age of marriage in relation to the standard of Baaligh. Instead of acknowledging that the Prophet Muhammad consummated his marriage with Aisha when she was 15 years old being the age of Baaligh, they deceptively replaced it with the lowest possible age for the onset of puberty and menstruation which was 9. They also shrewdly inserted the tale of Aisha's hair falling out and her experience with breathing problems in order to justify their own abuse of under age girls.

The 9 year old marriage now appeared to be consistent with the standard minimum biological age for the onset of menstruation. This deceived Muslims into believing that the standard was not the maximum age for the onset of menstruation(15) but the minimum(9).Generations later Muslims would justify the 9 year old marriage by considering it a characteristic or root of a universally accepted process of social evolution. This means that for the prophet Muhammad and his contemporaries a 9 year old girl living in the desert culture of 7th century Arabia was much different than a 9 year old girl living in the modern developed nations of the 21st Century. However when we scrutinize the historicity of the situation it then becomes evident that 15 years old was the universally accepted age for physical maturity and therefore even in the time of the Prophet Muhammad marriage to a 9 year old girl was not acceptable. In addition the false Hadiths present the 9 year old Aisha in association with doll playing, and swings which demonstrates that she shared social affinities with A typical behaviors of a 6-9 year old of today.

Most modern day Muslims believe that Baaligh is determined by the physical signs of puberty and the onset of menstruation. They teach that if one has not demonstrated any signs of puberty it is only then that they are declared Baaligh at 15. This is simply not true and stands in contrast to the authentic standards of Baaligh. Even if one demonstrates signs of puberty and experiences menstruation they are not considered Baaligh until they reach 15.

The following is a summary of events that clearly demonstrates the fact that the Prophet Muhammad did not consummate his marriage with Aisha when she was 9 years old but rather 15.

1. It is a fact that Fatimah the daughter of the Prophet Muhammad was approximately 5 years older than Aisha .
2. Fatimah was born 5 years before the Call which is when the Prophet Muhammad first received his Prophetic calling in 610. Therefore Fatimah was born in 605 and Aisha was born around 610
(According to Ibn Hajar, Fatimah (ra) was five years older
than Ayesha (ra). Fatimah (ra) is reported to have been born when
the Prophet (pbuh) was 35 years old.'
So Fatimah was born in 605 when the Prophet was 35. So Ayesha was born
in 610 , after Muhammad started to receive revelations,)
3. The Hijra being the time that the Prophet Muhammad and his followers fled from the violent resisters of Mecca and found refuge in Medina took place in the year 623. At this time Aisha would have been 13 years old.
4. The Prophet Muhammad consummated his marriage with Aisha during the Second year of the Hijra. (The First Year 623-624 and the Second Year 624-625)
Therefore the Consummation of the Marriage between the Prophet Muhammad and Aisha took place as she became Baligha at 15 years old.

(Read: Muhammad the Prophet - Maulana Muhammad Ali -

.... because the consummation took place in the Second year of the Flight, it follows that she could not have been less than 15 at the time...)

There is absolutely no validity to the false teaching which states that the Prophet Muhammad consummated his marriage with Aisha when she was only 9 years of age. Now there may be some who will claim that 15 is too young as well. However 15 is the minimum age for marriage in the State of Kansas and even in the State of New York a 14-15 year old can marry with parental consent. The Prophet Muhammad had parental permission and consummated his marriage with Aisha at 15. This means that the Prophet Muhammad would have met the legal requirements for marriage in the State of New York.

Sheik Imran Nazar Hosein has openly declared that the Hadith which states that the Prophet Muhammad consummated his marriage with Aisha when she was only 9 years old should be thrown in the trash can despite the fact that it was declared authentic by Imam Bukhari.

" That hadith is in conflict with the Koran. Fabricated, its an insult to the Prophet. Someone should take it and throw it in the garbage bin. ..."

"Someone has to have the courage to say that it is a fabricated hadith."
