ISRAELITE HOLY DAYS IN THE FIRST SPRING MONTH OF NISSAN
1. ROSH CHODESHIM - THE SEASONAL NEW YEAR(THE BEGINNING OF MONTHS) MARCH 1ST(1ST OF NISSAN)
- Rosh Chodeshim is the Seasonal New Year known as The Beginning of Months. The Israelites came forth out of Egypt in the Spring Month of Nissanu which equates to the Spring Month of March.
This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.
On this day scriptural readings from the birth of the Prophet Moses to his commissioning at the burning bush are recited.
Rosh Chodeshim is a Parallel observance to Rosh HaShanah which was initially a Sabbath of Rest. However during the exile and under gentile authority the Israelites are forbidden to enforce the Sabbaths of Rest.
2. ASHURA - THE DAY OF THE LAMB - MARCH 10TH(10TH OF NISSAN)
Ashura is observed on the 10th day of the 1st month which is March 10th. According to the 5 Books of Moses it is the day in which the Israelites were commanded to take a Lamb in preparation for the Passover
This month shall be unto you the Beginning of Months: it shall be the First month of the year to you. Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying , In the Tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house:
(THROUGH THE MIRACULOUS CROSSING OF THE JORDAN RIVER LED BY THE PROPHET JOSHUA THE ISRAELITE DAY OF DELIVERANCE WOULD TRANSITION FROM THE 14TH DAY OF THE 1ST MONTH TO THE 10TH DAY OF THE FIRST MONTH:)
The Prophet Moses will be forever remembered for leading the Israelites out of Egypt with the miraculous crossing of the Red Sea. The Prophet Joshua was divinely commissioned to inherit authority from the Prophet Moses. This bestowing of authority was sealed with a miracle intended to duplicate the crossing of the Red Sea. In the same manner that the Prophet Moses led the Israelites on dry land in crossing the Red Sea, the Prophet Joshua led the Israelites on dry land in crossing the Jordan River:
For the Lord your God dried up the waters of the Jordan from before you until ye had passed over, as the Lord your God did to the Red Sea, which He dried up from before us until we had gone over,...
The Book of Joshua states that Ashura is the day in which the Prophet Joshua and the Israelites miraculously crossed the Jordan River.
On that day the LORD magnified Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they feared him, as they feared Moses, all the days of his life. And the LORD spake unto Joshua, saying , Command the priests that bear the ark of the testimony, that they come up out of Jordan. Joshua therefore commanded the priests, saying , Come ye up out of Jordan. And it came to pass, when the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD were come up out of the midst of Jordan, and the soles of the priests' feet were lifted up unto the dry land, that the waters of Jordan returned unto their place, and flowed over all his banks, as they did before. And the people came up out of Jordan on the TENTH DAY of the FIRST MONTH...,
Ashura is also remembered as the day in which Imam Hossein was martyred at Karbala. During Ashurah(March 10th) Israelites celebrate Imam Hossein's role as the Passover Lamb. Imam Hossein was among the 72 Martyrs taken from the Flocks of Kedar in accordance with that which is written in the Book of Isaiah(Isaiah 60:7)
ASHURA EXTENDED FOR TWO DAYS:
Originally Ashura was observed as a one day 12 hour fast. However the Prophet Muhammad extended it for two days from which the Qaray Karaites fast on both the 9th and 10th days or the 10th and 11th days of the Spring Month of Nissan(March)
Ibn abbas says the prophet (pbuh) said fast on the day of Ashura and do other than what Jews do, (so) fast a day before or after it (as well).( Ahmad 2154)
At Midnight on the 15th of Nissan(March 15th) the name of Imam Hossein is attached to the doorposts of Israelite homes in place of the blood of the original Passover Lamb Those Israelites who recognize Imam Hossein as the Passover Lamb are protected by the blood of Karbala which diverts the Angel of Death. Fasting takes place from 6AM to 6PM which equates to Sunrise and Sunset Fasting.
3. PASSOVER (THE DAY OF UNLEAVENED BREAD)- MARCH 14TH- 15TH
(14TH-15TH OF NISSANU)
On the evening of the 14th of Nissan(March 14th) A meal of Unleavened Bread, Fish, Lentils, cucumbers, onions and garlic along with bitter herbs are eaten. The Unleavened Bread is eaten in order to remember that the Israelites left Egypt in haste and did not have the appropriate Leavened Bread needed for the upcoming Feast of Bread. The Bitter herbs are eaten as a reminder of the bitter and harsh treatment that the Israelites experienced in Egypt, while the Fish, lentils, cucumbers, onions and garlic are a reminder of the foods the Israelites ate while in Egypt.
....and with unleavened bread and with bitter herbs they shall eat it.
'We remember the fish which we did eat in Egypt freely, the cucumbers and the melons and the leeks and the onions and the garlic.'
And when you said: O Musa! we cannot bear with one food, therefore pray Lord on our behalf to bring forth for us out of what the earth grows, of its herbs and its cucumbers and its garlic and its lentils and its onions
During the Evening Passover Meal the Eucharist of Hossein is performed as the blood that he shed is memorialized with the drinking of Non-carbonated Grape Juice and his dead body is remembered with the eating of Unleavened Bread.
The 15th of Nissanu(March 15th) is a transitional day of purification and preparation for the Festival of Manna. Anything leftover from the Passover meal from the previous evening must be removed before 6AM.
....and with unleavened bread and with bitter herbs they shall eat it.
And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the MORNING, and that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire.
The 15th and 22nd days of Nissan(March 15th & 22nd) are commanded as Festival Sabbath days. However in the exile and under gentile authority the Israelites are forbidden to enforce Sabbath Rest Days
(On the 22nd day of Nissan which aligns to March 22nd Challah which is Leavened Bread is eaten since it is one of the days in which Manna was eaten.
On the 15th of Nissanu all UNLEAVENED BREAD must be removed from Israelite homes. However during this sacred transitional day neither LEAVENED or UNLEAVENED BREAD may be eaten.
4. THE FEAST OF MANNA BREAD - MARCH 16TH-22ND
16TH NISSAN - 22ND OF NISSAN
(THE FESTIVAL OF THE SPRING EQUINOX)
FEAST OF MANNA OR UNLEAVENED BREAD?
The Book of Numbers tells us that if the Israelites are on a journey during the appointed Month of Passover that they must observe it in the SECOND MONTH according to the same numerics:
And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If any man of you or of your posterity shall be unclean by reason of a dead body, or be in a journey afar off, yet he shall keep the Passover unto the Lord. The fourteenth day of the SECOND MONTH at even they shall keep it,.....
When the Israelites initially came out of Egypt they could not keep the Passover and 7 day Feast of Bread in the appointed 1st month because they were obviously on a journey. In this regard the Israelites observed the first Passover and Feast of Bread on the SECOND MONTH.
And they took their journey from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came unto the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the FIFTEENTH DAY of the SECOND MONTH after their departing out of the land of Egypt......... Then said the Lord unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no. And it shall come to pass, that on the SIXTH day they shall prepare that which they bring in; and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily. And Moses and Aaron said unto all the children of Israel, At even, then ye shall know that the Lord hath brought you out from the land of Egypt:
And in the morning, then ye shall see the glory of the Lord; for that he heareth your murmurings against the Lord: and what are we, that ye murmur against us?...
THIS WAS THE SECOND MONTH PASSOVER/FEAST OF BREAD.HOWEVER THE ISRAELITES ARE GOING TO BEGIN TO EAT MANNA THROUGHOUT THE FESTIVAL. HERE THEY ARE COMMANDED TO COLLECT AND EAT THE MANNA FOR SIX DAYS WHILE COLLECTING A DOUBLE PORTION ON THE SIXTH DAY FOR CONSUMPTION ON THE 7TH DAY.
(Since the 15th was the Sabbath, MANNA was actually collected from the 16th-21st and thus the 22nd was the 7th day in which MANNA was eaten but not collected.)
THIS PROVES THAT THE ISRAELITES ATE MANNA FOR THE ENTIRE FESTIVAL OF BREAD. MANNA IS LEAVENED BREAD AND IS THEREFORE MOST APPROPRIATELY REPRESENTED BY CHALLAH.
Every Sabbath two loaves of Challah bread are blessed in what the Rabbis call Lehem Mishneh. These loaves of Challah Bread represent the Manna Bread that the Israelites were fed in the Wilderness. Challah Bread is Leaven Bread and therefore the Feast of Manna is remembered by eating that which is Leavened and not Unleavened.
Another parable spoke he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.
This is why Manna is remembered by Leavened Bread such as Challah because it is the Bread of Life.
Although the Israelites started baking bread in preparation for the Seven Day Festival of Bread, the Bread that they started baking did not have time to leaven. Without Leaven Bread the Israelites could not observe the Festival of Bread in its appointed time.
And the Egyptians were urgent upon the people, that they might send them out of the land in haste; for they said, We be all dead men. And the people took their dough before it was leavened, their kneading troughs being bound up in their clothes upon their shoulders.
The Bread that the Israelites were Baking just prior to Midnight was obviously intended to be leavened. However due to the fact that they were thrust out in haste they were left with unleavened bread which was not suitable for the intended bread festival. In fact the scriptural verse below states that they did not have anything fit for eating for the bread festival.
And they baked unleavened cakes of the dough which they brought forth out of Egypt, for it was not leavened; because they were thrust out of Egypt, and could not tarry, neither had they prepared for themselves any VICTUALS.
VICTUAL - Food fit for human consumption. 2. victuals Food supplies; provisions
Since the Israelites had no Leavened bread or victuals meaning food suited for consumption on the festival the Lord provided His own LEAVENED BREAD from Heaven.(Just as he would later provide His own Passover Lamb). Therefore between the 15th-21st days of the Second month in accordance with the Second(delayed) Feast of Bread, the Israelites first experienced the miracle of Manna and this became the reason for the week long remembrance for the Feast of Bread.
The Israelites were only commanded to remember that their bread was unleavened as a reminder that they could not fulfill the obligation of the Bread Feast which was miraculously fulfilled when the Lord provided his own Leavened Bread which is MANNA.
And the house of Israel called the name thereof Manna: and it was like coriander seed, white; and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey.
Throughout the 7 days of the Feast of Manna White Leavened Bread with Honey and Coriander Seed is eaten.
5. SHAVOUT COUNTING THE OMER (WEEKS) - MARCH 17TH - MAY 4TH.
17TH OF NISSANU - 5TH OF SIMANU
Shavout which means Weeks is a counting of 7 weeks(49 days). The 49 days represent the Wilderness, a time in which the Israelites were fed Manna. Since Manna was measured according to the Omer, Shavout is also known as " Counting the Omer"
This is the thing which the Lord hath commanded, Gather of it (MANNA)every man according to his eating, an OMER for every man, according to the number of your persons; take ye every man for them which are in his tents.
The Israelites were seriously commanded to remember the Manna they were fed in the Wilderness:
And Moses said, This is the thing which the Lord commandeth, Fill an OMER of it to be kept for your generations; that they may see the bread wherewith I have fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you forth from the land of Egypt. And Moses said unto Aaron, “Take a pot, and put an OMER full of MANNA therein, and lay it up before the Lord to be kept for your generations.” As the Lord commanded Moses, so Aaron laid it up before the testimony, to be kept. And the children of Israel ate manna forty years, until they came to a land inhabited. They ate manna until they came unto the borders of the land of Canaan. Now an OMER is a tenth part of an ephah.
Even the Holy Koran honors the memory of Manna:
And We made the clouds to give shade over you and We sent to you manna and quails: Eat of the good things that We have given you; and they did not do Us any harm, but they made their own souls suffer the loss.
O children of Israel! indeed We delivered you from your enemy, and We made a covenant with you on the blessed side of the mountain, and We sent to you the manna and the quails.
The Counting of the Omer begins FROM March 16th which is the morrow after the Sabbath(15th). Therefore March 17th is counted as DAY #1
And ye shall count unto you from the morrow after the day of rest,
Every 7 days the Israelites come together and eat Manna Remembrance Bread
HIDRELLEZ - (THE DAY OF ELIJAH AND AL- KHIDR)
MAY 5th - 6th day of the 3rd month of Simanu
Hidrellez is a compound name which refers to the coming together of Al-Khidr(Hidr) and Elijah( Ellez). Al-Khidr is Melchizadok also known as the King of Righteousness. It is Al-Khidr who anoints the Priest Kings from every nation in order to establish the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth. In this regard he anointed Jethro the High Priest of Midian who in turn became the Teacher of Moses. Al-Khidr personally taught Moses as well and ordained him as the King Priest of Israel.
And he(Moses) was king in Jeshurun, when the heads of the people and the tribes of Israel were gathered together.
Al-Khidr is also known as the GREEN ONE because he is the ruler of the rejuvenated Earth which is the restoration of the Garden of Eden known to Muslims as Jannah.
The Prophet Muhammad once stated that Al-Khidr sat on barren land and it immediately became Green with vegetation.
Elijah the Prophet will be returning in the manifestation of John the Baptist who is known to Muslims as Yahya. He will at first baptize and purify the true believers with water at the River Hayyah(Life) in preparation for entering the Garden of Paradise known as Jannah. However at this point John the Baptist will introduce the Fire Baptism of Christ. It was Elijah who ascended in a Chariot of Fire and of whom called down Fire from Heaven in his battle against the false Prophets of Baal.
I KINGS 18:24
And call ye on the name of your gods, and I(Elijah) will call on the name of the LORD: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken.
I KINGS 18:38-39
Then the fire of the LORD fell and consumed the sacrifice, the wood, the stones, and the dust, and it licked up the water in the trench. When all the people saw this, they fell face down and said, "The LORD, He is God! The LORD, He is God!"
II KINGS 2:11
And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and separated them both; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
In order to enter the Garden of Paradise the Children of the Second Adam will have to walk through the Cherubim and the Flaming Sword which prevented Adam and Eve from partaking of the Tree of Life.
So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
